Abstract

Luciferases are classes of enzymes that catalyze the oxidation reactions of luciferin. An example of this class of enzymes is firefly luciferase, which is classified as Photinus-luciferin: oxygen-4-oxidoreductase. It takes part in the reaction of ATP hydrolysis and decarboxylation, the product of which is firefly luciferin, referred to as LH2.

Keywords: luciferase, enzyme, biochemistry
