Abstract

Lactase (LPH-Lactase phlorozin hydrolase) is a protein with a molecular weight of about 160 kDa belonging to the 𝛽-galactosidase enzymes. LPH is found in the enterocyte cell membrane that forms the brush border of the small intestine. This is a characteristic feature of mammals, with the greatest amount of LPH being found in the middle of the small intestine. The gene encoding LPH is located on the long arm of the second chromosome (2q21).
