This condition can arise due to viral infections, but the cause is often unknown. In this book, various causes and types of pericarditis are elucidated, and treatment options are outlined across six chapters. Chapter One deals with Dressler syndrome, which is secondary pericarditis that occurs after myocardial injury and is widely purported to be of autoimmune etiology. Chapter Two discusses the treatment of pericarditis and the management of potential complications. Chapter Three addresses the clinical and diagnostic features of purulent pericarditis, which is the presence of suppuration in the pericardium, as well as therapeutic options. Chapter Four emphasizes the emerging adverse events of vaccine-induced pericarditis, summarizing its epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical presentation, diagnosis, management, and limitation. Chapter Five concerns constrictive pericarditis, which arises due to the scarring and loss of elasticity in post-acute pericarditis. Finally, Chapter Six addresses the clinical and diagnostic features of COVID-19-induced pericarditis, as well as the therapeutic options. **Order both the printed version and the e-book together and SAVE!**]]> Heart Transplantation: Indications, Postoperative Management and Long-Term Outcomes https://novapublishers.com/shop/heart-transplantation-indications-postoperative-management-and-long-term-outcomes/ Fri, 13 May 2022 14:00:34 +0000 https://novapublishers.com/?post_type=product&p=116338 Series: Cardiology Research and Clinical Developments BISAC: MED010000; MED085040 DOI: https://doi.org/10.52305/KNCI5528 Target Audience: This book is intended for cardiology fellows in training, surgeons, cardiologists, internists, and other health professionals involved in the care of heart transplant patients. ReviewHeart Transplantation: Indications, Postoperative Management and Long-Term Outcomes is a didactic book for the healthcare professional that is involved in the management of heart transplant patients. Description Heart failure is an increasingly prevalent syndrome worldwide with a high impact on quality of life and survival. Although there have been great advances in the treatment of this condition that effectively increase survival, mortality remains unacceptably high, exceeding 40% at 5 years, which is worse than a large number of cancers. Furthermore, patients with advanced heart failure are a particular subgroup with higher hospitalizations and mortality, with a short-term survival that can be as low as 50% in the case of cardiogenic shock. Heart transplantation remains the gold standard treatment for these patients when other pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions have failed, with a 1-year survival of approximately 90%. However, not all patients are suitable candidates for this procedure, and knowing the indications as well as the contraindications for heart transplantation is essential for appropriate patient selection. Heart Transplantation: Indications, Postoperative Management and Long-Term Outcomes is a highly illustrated, didactic book that comprehensively describes the pretransplant assessment of the advanced heart failure patient, the perioperative management of heart transplantation, and the early and late complications of the heart transplant recipient. It also covers special situations in heart transplantation such as Chagas cardiomyopathy, congenital heart disease, hypertrophic/restrictive cardiomyopathy and pediatric heart transplantation. **Order both the printed version and the e-book together and SAVE!**]]>

Bennington (Editor) Series: Horizons in World Cardiovascular Research BISAC: MED010000 Horizons in World Cardiovascular Research. Volume 20 first explores preventive cardiology, a new subspecialty in cardiovascular medicine, discussing how it is possible to modify lifestyle and coronary risk factors well in advance of clinical events. The authors describe an approach to echocardiography of the aortic arch for reliable demonstration of the arch segments while reducing confounding from a patent ductus arteriosus. This compilation goes on to discuss intravascular ultrasound, which complements the conventional angiographic study and allows for the acquirement of high definition images of arteries for the evaluation of atheroma plaques. Additionally, a brief presentation of the X-ray angiography image processing methods is provided. The perioperative use of dexmedetomidine in cardiac surgery, specifically its role in early extubation, delirium management, and reducing morbidity is assessed. Evidence-based treatments for secondary prevention of ischemic heart diseases are described, including the use of antiplatelet agents, beta-blockers, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, and statins, as well as lifestyle modifications. The authors propose that the assessment of renal function in patients with heart failure is very important because it can reflect their hemodynamic status and provide a better prognostic score. The authors describe some of the common drug-related problems in patients with cardiovascular diseases, as well as their consequences, so as to identify patients who may be at risk and review several interventions designed to limit their occurrence. The authors discuss the literature on polycystic ovary syndrome and cardio-metabolic risk factors, providing recommendations that would be helpful for healthcare providers and policy makers. Additionally, the aspects of nutritional habits associated to an increase in cardiovascular risk factors in the obese population are addressed. (Imprint: Nova Medicine and Health)]]>
